About Stalk Eyes

The numerous species of sand crabs that roam our beaches are fascinating little creatures. Some have tall eyes, which are perched high on top of slender stalks. They are like nature’s tiny periscopes, allowing them to peer safely out of their holes. Sand crabs are a joy to watch. They scurry about at speeds close to 15 feet per second back and forth from their burrows and then peek out to see if it is safe to come out again.

Stalk Eyes is the story of a special Fiddler Crab with exceptionally tall eyes. With its cast of endearing characters, endless humor, and playful illustrations, Stalk Eyes captures the importance of being kind to others.

Stalk Eyes is an endearing Children’s Picture Book with the very powerful message on an important issue of our times- bullying. What an important topic to share with our children! About Bullying

This story is a perfect read-aloud for October’s National Bullying Awareness Month. Parents, school staff, and all caring adults have a role to play in putting a stop to teasing and bullying. We need to make sure that children know that these actions are never acceptable. Kids need to know what bullying is and what to do when they confront it. They need to know how to recognize bullying, how to avoid it and who to go to for help.

In the story, Stalk Eyes sets the example of how to confront bullying. He speaks to trusted adults in his life including his parents, his doctor, and the school principal. By speaking up, his parents and the principal are able to help. Because of his ability to see far with his tall eyes and spot danger, they choose Stalk Eyes to be the school’s crossing guard. Stalk Eyes is on duty when he sees danger approaching. He springs into action to alert his classmates, saving their lives and becoming their hero. It’s true—heroes do come in all shapes and sizes, as shown by this special Fiddler Crab!
