About the Author - Ron Sisson
Ron’s life-long ambition of writing children’s books, was not realized until well after retirement in 1994 from a 40-year career with General Electric.
He began work with GE at the age of 17 by enrolling in their four-year Drafting Apprenticeship Program in Schenectady, New York. After 10 years in drafting, he took leave to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, graduating with BSEE and MSEE degrees. During graduate studies, he worked on Satellite Navigation Systems at GE’s Research and Development Center in Schenectady. He then transferred to GE’s Mobile Radio Communications Department in Lynchburg, Virginia for the final 20 years of his career. He held assignments in Bids and Proposals and Project Management on Public Safety Computer Controlled Dispatch Systems. It was during these assignments that he really discovered his love for writing.
Ron is an R/C model airplane enthusiast and a life-long avid outdoorsman with a passion for camping, boating and fishing. His favorite activity, besides writing, is fly-fishing for native brook trout in the mountain streams of Virginia and North Carolina especially the North Fork of the Buffalo River near Amherst, Virginia and the Davidson River near Brevard, North Carolina. In later years, he has enjoyed sharing many of these activities with his grandchildren.
Ron’s dream of writing children’s books came true in 2015, when he published Lost on Big Otter River, recipient of the indieBRAG Gold Medallion award. Ron credits this accomplishment to his granddaughter, Bailey, who was 13 years old at the time and encouraged him to publish the story after reading the initial manuscript. Based on true events, this creative non-fiction story is about a terrifying boating adventure down Big Otter River with two of his three children, including Bailey’s father who was 12 at that time. Ron described the trip, that took place near Lynchburg, Virginia in 1976, in a detailed letter to his parents and suggested that it may one day form the basis for his first children’s book. Nearly 40 years later he was able to give his mother the first copy 2 weeks prior to her passing, just short of her 100th birthday.
Stalk Eyes, A Heroic Fiddler Crab, Is his second children’s book published in 2016 and is a Gold Recipient of the Mom’s Choice Award, It is a full color illustrated story with an anti-bullying message, inspired by observing the playful antics of Sand Crabs common on the beautiful east coast beaches of Florida.
Let’s Color Stalk Eyes, is his most recent book, published in 2018. This coloring book is based on the original 2016 storybook. It includes full spread gray tone reproductions of the original full color illustrations in the storybook and a fun challenging game for the child to match a descriptive word with an illustration from the story.
Ron resides in the beachside community of Indialantic, FL with his wife Madeline, a retired Brevard County elementary school teacher. His children and grandchildren continue to reside in Virginia.
